A Precepting midwife is one who mentors an apprenticing midwife through the clinical portion of her training, allowing the student the opportunity to demonstrate competency of skills with actual birthing women, provides witness to her student managing pregnancies from beginning to end and postpartum and then signing off on her competency.
Among the host of California midwives and instructors that played a part in my education are:
One of my favorite preceptors Nancy Bayda CPM, LM, gave me room to learn at my own pace, strength to claim my place as a midwife and helped me to view myself as a responsible, capable baby catcher. I truly appreciate her loving wisdom and patience.
Another favorite mentor of mine, Faith M. Freeman CPM, LM, is an awesome midwife from the Midwest bringing years of experience and wisdom to every birth. Her gentle approach has been an encouraging display of out of hospital birth. I will always be greatfull. We have worked so well as a dynamic birth team, giving our 100% best to clients we have served together.
